Coaches

With close to 500 soccer players involved in our Hot Shots, Intramural and Travel programs, the success of our Club is directly related to the efforts of our coaching staff.  Paramount to our coaching mission is the development and conduct of our players.  In that regard, our coaches are guided by a Code of Ethics authored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

With our CYO affiliation at St. Thomas More, our coaches are required to meet the following criteria relative to all volunteers in Diocesan CYO activities:

1. Attend a diocesan-sponsored CYO coaching course.
2. Attend a session on promoting a safe environment for our youth.
3. Submit a Diocesan Background Check form.
4. Submit a Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance form.

In order to successfully teach our youth soccer players, St. Thomas More Soccer Club encourages each coach to acquire and sharpen their skills with continuing education through the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and the United States Soccer Federation.  STMSC has established minimum standards, similar to those of the Lehigh Valley Youth Soccer League (LVYSL), regarding coaching education:

All registration fees incurred for anyk required courses or forms rlated to your involvement as an STMSC coach will be reimbursed by the Club.  Additionally, we promote the sharing of coaching education materials among our staff.  A number of excellent coaching materials (videotapes, manuals, books) are available to enhance training sessions and general soccer knowledge.  Also, links to coaching materials available on the internet are identified as superb resources.
