Registration FAQ's

Why online registration?

There are many benefits to switching to an online registration process, some of which are:

For parents:

  • The convenience of parents being able to register their children for soccer online, anytime, and not have to plan to attend an on-site registration session.
  • The ability of parents to review their registration and account history at any time.
  • The ability to pay for registration by credit card.

For players and teams:

  • The ability of teams to be able to create web pages on which information and photos can be placed.
  • The ability for coaches and team managers to contact their teams via email through the website.

For the club:

  • The ability to better manage the registration information of several hundred player registrations.
  • The ability to keep track of and manage payment information.
  • The ability to communicate via email to parents, players, volunteers and coaches any soccer-related information.
  • The expected reduction in the number of volunteer hours required to manage various areas of the soccer program.

How is the online registration process handled?

The STM soccer program is utilizing the services of Count Me In organization, a company that specializes in online registration processes.

How do I know that my credit card transaction is secure?

All credit card transactions are processed by using a system that meets the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).  Neither the STM soccer club nor Count Me In has access to your credit card information directly.

Do I have to pay by credit card?

No, you can also pay by check.  At the end of the registration process, you will be asked to choose a payment method. If you choose to pay by check, you will be shown the address to send your check to.  You can bring it to on-site registration and pay there.  Checks by mail are due within 10 days of registration.

I don't have time to volunteer.  Do I to have to sign up for a volunteer position?

No, though we ask that you do if at all possible.  Some volunteer position require as little as two hours of your time, plus you will be providing a valuable service to the club.  The club relies on its volunteers to be able to function as an organization.

If no one in your family signs up for a volunteer position, there is a $35 opt out fee assessed by the club. If you choose not to volunteer, you will need to go to the Volunteer section and sign up for Volunteer Opt-out position, which will then charge your account the $35 fee.

Can I sign up for more that one volunteer position?

Yes!!  Many parents hold several volunteer positions within the club.  The minimum volunteer commitment in order to avoid the volunteer opt-out fee is one position, but please consider signing up for more than one.  We never have too many volunteers!  If one parent signs up for one, we ask that spouses also consider it also.

How do I sign my child up to play on a travel team?

Only players who have actually made the travel teams can register for the travel program.  Since fall soccer registration occurs in April and travel try-outs are not held until at least May, travel sign-ups are not available online. All players, both intramural and (prospective) travel players, should register in the same (age- and gender-appropriate) program.  The regular registration fee will be charged.  All players in the program who intend to try out for travel will be notified when travel try-outs are.  Any child who then makes the travel team will be transferred to the travel team roster.

My child is in high school would like to sign up for an STM team. There is only one group for all high school ages.  Will there be only one team for all high school ages (U15-19)?

No, but it is not possible to know in advance exactly how many teams there will be until it is known how many players sign up.  For example, there may not be enough players to form both a U15 and a U16 team, but there may be enough players in both groups combined to field one U16 team.

Can my child "play up" or "play down"?

The online registration system will not allow you to register your child in an older or younger age group.  For a child in the Hot Shots program, the Hot Shots coordinator may allow a child to play in a higher or lower age group in order to be on the same team as schoolmates.  However, for older age groups, the club typically does not allow this practice.  (Exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis.)

To request that your child play in a different age group, register your child for the appropriate age group in the on-line registration system.  When finished, contact the Hot Shots or Intramural program coordinator with your request to play up or play down. Their contact information can be found on the Club Officers page.  Note:  League travel rules do not allow travel players to play in a younger age group.

My child would like to try out for travel but if he/she does not make the travel team, will probably choose to play on a non-STM team.  How do I register in this situation?

In one of two ways.  If you register your child in the program in the normal way and they do not make the travel team, you may then request a refund.  Or, you can choose not to register your child and they can register on paper at the try-out.  There will be no fees collected there, and if your child does not make the travel team, there are no fees to manage.  However, if you register online in advance, you can be assured of receiving information about when travel tryouts are going to be held.  And, the club will have a better idea as to how many players are interested in trying out for the travel teams.
