Volunteer Positions

Position Descriptions

Hot Shots Clinics

The soccer club sponsors a Fall season kickoff clinic held one evening in August prior to the season starting.  It is a fun night primarily meant for team introductions.  The players meet their coaches as well as their teammates and players receive their team uniform t-shirts.  A lot of fun for an hour to get the players excited about the upcoming season.

  • U6 Clinic Help 

    Assist with the U-6 soccer season kickoff clinic held one evening in August.

    - Number of volunteers needed:  6

    - Time commitment:  One evening in August

    - Experience required:  None

  • U7 Clinic Help 

    Assist with the U-7 soccer season kickoff clinic held one evening in August.

    - Number of volunteers needed:  6

    - Time commitment:  One evening in August

Fall Soccer Picnic

The club has a Fall season picnic open to all soccer families.  Each family is asked to sign up to bring a snack, dish, or dessert, and a nominal family fee is collected to cover the cost of the grill meats and rolls.

  • Picnic Coordinator 

    Plan all aspects of the Fall Soccer Picnic which will be held Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008.

    - Number of volunteers needed:  4

    - Time commitment:  Several hours prior to the fall soccer picnic

    - Experience required:  None 

  • Picnic Committee

    Assist with the picnic set-up or cleanup, or help with various duties during the picnic on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008.

    - Number of volunteers needed:  20

    - Time commitment:  2-4 hours during the picnic

    - Experience required:  None

  • Picnic Grill Cooks 

    Grill hot dogs and hamburgers at the Fall Soccer Picnic held in late September.  A social and fun position!

    Number of volunteers needed:  8

    - Time commitment:  2-4 hours during the soccer picnic

    - Experience required:  Grilling experience helpful

Picture Day

During the Fall season, the STM Soccer Club sponsors professional portraits taken of each team as well as individual players. Families are presented with portrait packages from which they may select and purchase.

  • Picture Day Coordinator

    Coordinate the photo day with the photography studio.  Schedule the teams for their photo times for photo day.

    - Number of volunteers needed:  2

    - Time commitment:  Several hours during the Fall season prior to Picture Day and once the photographs return

    - Experience required:  Organizational skills 

  • Picture Day Assistants 

    Help to distribute the players' completed photo packets and forms to their respective team coaches.

    - Number of Volunteers:  6

    - Time commitment:  Varies

    - Experience required:  None

Hoagie Sale Fundraiser 

Each Fall the soccer club holds a Hoagie Sale fundraiser to help offset the costs of running the soccer program. Over $5000 is raised through this fundraiser, and more than 2000 hoagies are made, all within a three-hour time period on a Saturday in October. This year's "Hoagie Day" will be on Saturday, October 24, 2009.

A large number of volunteers are needed to run this event. The various volunteer positions are listed below. 

  • Hoagie Sale Assistant Coordinators  

    Assist the coordinator in making sure certain aspects of the fundraiser are completed properly and on time.  

    - Number of volunteers needed:  3

    - Time commitment:  Several hours prior to Hoagie Day; also several hours on Hoagie Day and/or Hoagie Sale prep day

    - Experience required:  None

  • Packet Handout Preparation

    Assists with preparation and distribution of Hoagie Sale information packets.

    - Number of volunteers needed:  3

    - Time commitment:  Several hours, time flexible

    - Experience required:  None

  •  Collecting Hoagie Sale Orders  

    Collect hoagie orders as they are turned in by coaches or team managers.   

    - Number of volunteers needed:  4

    - Time commitment:  2-3 hours. Need to be available at either soccer garage or soccer picnic to collect orders as they are handed in.

    - Experience required:  None  

  • Hoagie Order Preparation 

    Help put hoagie order bags together in preparation for Hoagie Sale Day.

    - Number of volunteers needed:  12

    - Time commitment:  3 hours, 6:00-9:00 pm, Tuesday, October 20, 2009

    - Experience required:  None 

  • Hoagie Sale - Ingredients Prep  

    Assist with hoagie ingredients preparation:  cutting meats and cheese into slices, slicing tomatoes.

    - Number of volunteers needed:  12

    - Time commitment:  2-3 hours, night before Hoagie Day, 6:00-9:00 pm, Friday, October 23, 2009

    - Experience required:  None

  • Hoagie Sale - Gym Set-Up 

    Assist with gymnasium set-up where hoagies are made.  Set up tables. Also assist with ingredients preparation if needed.

    - Number of volunteers needed: 5

    - Time commitment:  2-3 hours, night before Hoagie Day, 6:00-9:00 pm, Friday, October 23, 2009

    - Experience required:  None

  • HOAGIE MAKER 

    This involves making the hoagies for the club's hoagie sale fundraiser one Saturday morning during the Fall season in the STM gym. Hoagies are made in an assembly-line setup.  A fun, social volunteer position.

    - Number of volunteers needed:  80-100 !

    - Time commitment:  3 hours on Hoagie Day, 6:00-9:00 am, Saturday, October 24, 2009

    - Experience required:  None 

  • Hoagie Sale - Clean-Up  

    Sweep, clean up gym after hoagie-making, put tables away, roll up mats, wash dishes, clean up kitchen. 

    - Number of volunteers needed:  8

    - Time commitment:  2-3 hours on Hoagie Day, 8:00 - 10:30 am, Saturday, October 24, 2009

    - Experience required:  None

Team Equipment Management

  • Team Equipment Bag Distribution (Fall and Spring) 

    Help to fill coaches' bags with equipment and team t-shirts for the Fall and Spring seasons.

    - Number of volunteers needed:  2

    - Time commitment:  1 day prior to Fall season and 1 day prior to Spring season for approximately 1-2 hours

    - Experience required:  None

  • Team Equipment Bag Collection (Fall and Spring) 

    Be at the Soccer garage at STM to receive the returned equipment bags from the coaches after Fall and Spring season.

    - Number of volunteers needed:  2

    - Time commitment:  Approximately 1 1/2 hours on one day at the end of both Fall and Spring seasons

    - Experience required:  None

Team Uniforms

Soccer Field Set-Up

  • Initial Field Set-Up & Lining 

    Initial lining of fields prior to the Fall season (in late August) at STM, Haines Mill, the Velodrome, and/or Christ Methodist Church.

    - Number of volunteers needed:  6

    - Time commitment:  Several hours before the start of soccer season

    - Experience required:  None (if no experience, will be assigned to assist with someone who knows how to line fields)

  • Field Lining Maintenance 

    Weekly re-lining of fields during the Fall season at STM, Haines, Mill, the Velodrome, and/or Christ Methodist Church.

    - Number of volunteers needed:  10

    - Time commitment:  Approximately one hour per week

    - Experience required:  None (volunteers will be taught how to operate the field liner)

Soccer Club Merchandise Sales

Team-Specific Positions

  • Coach

    Teaches, coaches, and develops the soccer players of the various teams.

    - Number of volunteers needed:  1 or 2 per team, depending on program level

    - Time commitment:  Can be significant, more so at upper age levels

    - Experience required:  A desire to work with children and develop their soccer potential. No soccer or coaching experience is required at the Hot Shots or early intramural levels.  Experience helpful or required at upper age levels. All coaches must meet Diocesan requirements for volunteers who work with children.

  • Assistant Coach

    Assists the coach with the development of the players.

    - Number of volunteers needed:  1-2 per team, depending on program level

    - Time commitment:  Can be significant, more so at upper age levels

    - Experience required:  A desire to work with children and develop their soccer potential.  No soccer or coaching experience is required at the Hot Shots or early intramural levels.  Experience helpful or required at upper age levels. All coaches must meet Diocesan requirements for volunteers who work with children.

  • Team Manager

    The team manager assists the coach with phone call to the team and with the distribution and collection of club and team information such as team rosters, PIcture Day Packets, Hoagie Sale Packets, Picnic information, etc.

    - Number of volunteers needed:  1 per team

    - Time commitment:  Several hours during the course of the soccer season

    - Experience required:  None.  Organizational skills helpful.
